showing our scars

one who left us all to soon - a tributePsyche made this as kind of a responce to the This I Pray/Drowning group. She said, "I mean, it's a terrific idea, but depression takes on a lot of forms, and one of them is self-mutalation. I decided that I wanted to do something when it affected my life: I learned my best friend Dee cuts herself. Not everyone who's depressed does this, but a lot do, and this is for those who have."

Now we are pleased to assume responsibility for maintaining this important site. If you would like to join, just e-mail us with your name and e-mail address and we will add you to our list of supporters. If you have a web site, copy and paste one of the images below to your site, link it back to this page, and include your URL when you write to join SOS..

NOTE - SOS is not simply another clique to paste on your cliques page. It is here to provide information and support for people who SI. Lately we have been getting many requests for membership, and we finally have had to decline some requests. Sometimes the writings of survivors may express situations or feelings which may be quite intense or even graphic, but we give warnings so that other survivors can choose whether or not to risk being triggered. Even so, we have received requests to list sites which have little or nothing to do with depression, self-injury, or surviving abuse.

We will not accept sites which promote violence or exploitation, XXX content, gratuitous profanity, hate or death themes, bigotry, occult or s*t*nic content, or which we believe have other content which is likely to unduly trigger Survivors. Most Goth sites which have applied so far have contained material which we believe is not helpful for those recovering from abuse or depression, and are usually rejected. If owners of such sites wish to be members of SOS and link to this site, we will be glad to have your support as members, but we will not list your site. Why? See above.

We hope that you will understand that we support your right to publish whatever you want, but that many of us have worked too hard in our survival and recovery to put at risk either ourselves or others seeking help and companionship with others who SI by listing these sites. This is self-protection, not censorship. When we evaluate such sites, we risk being badly triggered, and when we find the content too distressing, we will not expose other survivors to this risk. Anyone who has spent time on a trauma unit with other survivors will understand how we pull together to help and protect one another. If we reject your site, we mean no insult, and we hope that you will try to understand our concerns. - silkies
